Baasira, a fulani scientist,.. Dogue
Dogue is a village in the Central North of Benin. It is a woodland forest zone, with few Khaya senegalensis spared by traditional logging companies in the region. There is severe food shortage for cattle during the dry season. As a result, Baasira, a fulani chief, has developped a typical agroforestry system including grass, crops, and fodder trees species in his farm.

Green, Blue, Red, Yellow,..fulani's colors

Green, Blue, Red, Yellow,..fulani's colors
It is unclear why do fulani people wear almost always colorfull clothes: green, red, blue, yellow. Mostly, you'll see them wearing green or blue colored colthes. some people think that it is because these colors can still look nice even if they are dirty. As fulani spend their time in the field with their cattle, white clothes will get dirty easily and frequently. blue or green clothes can keep the secret! This picture, taken in Okpara region, shows two fulani on their bicycles wearing green colored clothes.

integrating fulani community

integrating fulani community
As a scientist working on indigenous knowledge, it is important to trust and get trusted by the community you study. in my case, i need to be trusted by the fulani community. To that end, you not only need to learn to speak fulani - at least the common sentences - but also to eat with them when you get invited. The first thing that indigenous people will offer you, in Benin, is water. it is important to drink that water or at least,.. be willing to do so. In this picture, I was drinking a fulani made porridge with fresh milk in Dogue (Benin). It was good! it was also a key step toward making the community trust me.
