Colleagues foresters,.. military

Colleagues foresters,.. military
They are colleagues foresters because we went to the same forestry engineer school at the University of Abomey Calavi. However, they are now different from us because they made the step of getting involved in the para-military corporate of foresters. They are involved directly in the protection of the forest. They're all Lieutnants (left to right: Enoch Seko N'Goye, Myself, Adjibi Razack, Adjakou Adjinda) and it is a pleasure to meet them in the field. You always get a home where you find them. They help with whatever they can,..: make contact with villagers, provide help in the field,..!

Meeting colleagues, Natitingou

Meeting colleagues, Natitingou
With Emmy, Achille, we were in Natitingou, North of Benin (hometown of the President of Benin, Mathieu Kerekou). We were on our way to Boukoumbe to work on the Baobab. And we paid a visit to one of our colleagues, Chabi China Arnaud (see picture,.. far right). Arnaud is now working in an NGO in Natitingou and playing key role in the organisation. He helped us with finding the right hotel, and connecting us with the staff of the Alpha Omega NGO in Boukoumbe. We had time to go and have a local beer (tchoukoutou), and eat some bean cakes!

Dr Natta Armand sharing his knowledge

Dr Natta Armand sharing his knowledge
Dr Natta Armand was sharing his knowledge of plants with us (Honore Biaou and I) in the Penesoulou forest reserve. He knows that forest very well;.. he conducted his PhD research there and had many contacts with indigenous people living around the forest. He is now working in one National Project in charge of the participatory management of the Mont Kouffe Forest (Central Benin,.. not far from the Penessoulou Forest).

Using compass to set up plots

Using compass to set up plots
A student using a compass to set up plot while his colleague is waiting for his turn to learn how to use that tool. We were at Dogue, in the central part of Benin. We found a Khaya senegalensis population that was heavily pruned,.. but it was not debarked that much. I suspected that the population sustained logging in the past. The maximum diameter at breast height (dbh) we recorded in that population was 33 cm, whereas we got a maximum of 134 cm dbh in Barabon (W National Park)
